Each layout is quoted for separately, and many factors affect the total.
The following numbers are just approximate and assume a 'very average' layout with about 10 - 15% track, 15 - 20% structures and the balance just general, simple scenery.
Baseboard, Track and Electrics
Prices start at about £50.00 - £70.00 per square foot for a 3.5mm/4mm scale or 7mm scale layout. 2mm scale layouts are about 50% to 75% higher on a square foot basis.
For finescale layouts, costs are higher depending on the amount of track and pointwork.
Adding the detail
The basic scenery portion of a layout (rolling hills or flat areas with grasses, dirt and gravel coverage) will add from £15.00 to £40.00 per square foot over the base price depending upon the amount of work involved.
Extensive rock outcroppings or cliffs etc will be £40.00 to £70.00 per square foot or more additional depending on the extent of vertical coverage and level of detailing. Streams, rivers and lakes will add £20.00 to £60.00 per square foot over the base price depending upon the level of detail.
Built-up areas with their high concentration of structures, roads, streets, figures and details will add £40.00 to £100.00 or more per square foot to the base price depending upon the structure types, density and number of people.
The cost of the structures themselves is additional (see below).
Cost of building construction depends a great deal on whether the model is scratch-built or kit based, if kit-based then the brand of kit and detail level desired must be considered.
For basic level detail, as a very rough estimate, you can use 6-8 times the retail price of the kit.
Densely packed, urban scenes with multiple, small highly detailed buildings, can easily surpass £300.00 per square foot.
Please remember, every project is quoted for on an individual basis and not quote by the square foot and if I give you a price, then that's the price you pay, unless of course you alter the specification or requirements!
Payment
In order to ease both my cash flow and yours, payments will be invoiced on a monthly basis (with an initial deposit to cover the first month, and subsequently each month thereafter, against details of work done and photos) until completion.
if you supply any of the parts/materials, then there will be a small discount over and above the actual cost of the items involved. (I have to pay tax and social charges based on my turnover)
Shipping
This will be by courier, this is best arranged by yourself (I will advise contact details etc) otherwise if I have to pay the courier, there will be additional cost (see above for reason).
Transport costs are typically 5 to 10% of the overall cost depending on the type of layout.
